Maintenance Audit/Assessment
AUDIT / ASSESSMENT & RECOMMENDATIONS
The challenges in the industry on maintenance organizations and vendors providing related services are increasing by the day. Reduced budgets with higher service level expectations and lesser people are some of these challenges. Companies realise that there is a need for partnering with MaintenanceAfrica to assist with the identification of the current gaps in their maintenance and service approach, applying the MaintenanceAfrica, Maintenance organization assessment methodology, and to assist with the implementation of the solutions resulting from the evaluation. The value of this concept is that results are driven from personnel and customer involvement, consolidating the strengths of all maintenance efforts into one group benefiting all parties.
APPROACH
The following section explains the MaintenanceAfrica activities to assist with the necessary baseline setting for an optimised maintenance approach, the starting point of which will be a maintenance organization assessment to determine the current status.
Several types of assessments (Audits) can be done to determine what the current performance is with respect to the industry norm, world-class standards and for benchmarking preparation purposes. The type of audit is determined by the kind of problems experienced or to deliver a practical plan forward based on existing strengths and best opportunities.
The different maintenance assessments are typically:
- Maintenance program effectiveness audits,
- Inventory / Spare parts management effectiveness audits,
- CMMS / Information management audits,
- Training / core competencies effectiveness audits.
A high-level audit addressing the entire above-mentioned facets is proposed to determine what area will benefit the organization most if resolved in the short term (quick hits).
Benefits from the MaintenanceAfrica structured audit methodology are the following:
- An audit report of the strengths and opportunities for improvement with a complete plan forward,
- Status report on the present maintenance process effectiveness in terms of how well it is achieving their maintenance goals,
- A comparison of the present maintenance program against the physical condition of the plant,
- Assistance during the implementations of the recommended solutions
MaintenanceAfrica has developed a methodology and footprint to distinguish themselves in the maintenance market place from competitors. This approach is unique and allows them to deliver world-class services to their clients and partners.
The assessment will require a one-day workshop with all relevant stakeholders to participate in the assessment. Ownership and commitment is already the first step in the right direction. During this workshop, several sections (between 18 and 22) in the maintenance and service organization will be discussed and rated. A continuous measure against best practices will allow a rating of current compliance to be achieved.
The outcome will be mapped and the necessary reports compiled. The findings and feedback will be provided in day two during another shorter session – depending on the outcome and discussions.
